Judy Holloway Berryhill
February 1, 1951–September 29, 2018
Judy Holloway Berryhill was born February 1, 1951, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, to Gus and Justine Holloway. She and her three brothers were raised in Memphis, Tennessee, but completed high school at Olive Branch after they moved here in 1966.
Judy married Carl Berryhill on October 26, 1968. They welcomed a son, Anthony, in 1971 and a daughter, Dee Dee, in 1979. Both of their children would grow up in Olive Branch and raise their families here as well. Anthony would work for the City, and Dee Dee would work at the flower shop. Ultimately Dee Dee would take over the daily operations of the business after Judy passed away.
In 1969 Judy graduated from DeGarmo Beauty School and began working as a beautician. She would continue her career as a beautician for fifteen years until she had the opportunity to purchase the Olive Branch Florist from Ms. Alma Young in February of 1985. This was a birthday gift to herself. She loved making flower arrangements and seeing the smiles it put on the faces of her customers. She was a “people person” and loved to talk with everyone who visited the flower shop.
Judy opened a second flower shop in Tunica in 2008. She loved the small-town feel and likened it to Olive Branch when she purchased Olive Branch Florist in 1985. She would sell the Tunica Florist in 2012 to take care of her mother, who was battling an illness at the time.
Judy loved to cook. This passion led her to purchase Wray’s Fins and Feathers in 2016. She found the same pleasure in cooking for others as she did in creating beautiful floral arrangements. After becoming ill with cancer in 2017, she decided to sell the restaurant. She would continue to work in the flower shop until her death in September of 2018.
Mrs. Berryhill was a friend to everyone in Olive Branch and served the needs of countless families during times of celebration and times of grief. You could always count on Judy to be there in time of need.
James Paul “Jim” Davis was born December 29, 1948, in Augusta, Arkansas, to Marguerite and Babe Davis. He is the youngest of five children and attended Augusta Elementary School. Jim graduated from Laura Conner High School, where he received academic awards in History and Math. He not only excelled in the classroom but also in athletics. Jim received All-District recognition in football, basketball, and baseball.
He would continue his education at Southern Arkansas University from 1966 to 1970, studying Business Administration and receiving his BBA in the Spring of 1970. He played varsity basketball and baseball while pursuing his college degree. As a postgraduate, Jim continued his education through the Mississippi School of Banking and LSU School of Banking. He also served a year in the Navy.
Jim and Sharron “Lynne” Turner Davis were married on February 13, 1971. They moved to Olive Branch in 1974 because Jim took a job with Bank of Mississippi, now known as Bancorp South. They loved the “small town” feel and the wonderful people they quickly became friends with. They knew this was the place they wanted to put down roots and raise their three sons, Trevor, Zach, and Jared. Jim and Lynne now have the joy of watching their five grandsons, Dalton, Grif, Evan, Camden, and Hudson, grow and thrive in the Olive Branch Community.
Mr. Davis served the needs of the people in Olive Branch as a retail and commercial lender from 1971 until 2013. He is a two-time President of the Olive Branch Chamber of Commerce, a Charter Member of the Olive Branch Rotary Club, and holds the recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow through the Olive Branch Rotary Club. He served as a Deacon of First Baptist Church in Olive Branch for thirty-five years and is currently a member of Great Commission Church, where his son is Senior Pastor.
Jim enjoys raising beagles and hunting rabbits. He is a friend to all and serves the Olive Branch community with honesty, integrity, and a sense of pride. He will proudly tell you that Olive Branch is his “hometown.”
