2021 Hall of Fame Judy Berryhill
Judy Holloway Berryhill
February 1, 1951–September 29, 2018
Judy Holloway Berryhill was born February 1, 1951, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, to Gus and Justine Holloway. She and her three brothers were raised in Memphis, Tennessee, but completed high school at Olive Branch after they moved here in 1966.
Judy married Carl Berryhill on October 26, 1968. They welcomed a son, Anthony, in 1971 and a daughter, Dee Dee, in 1979. Both of their children would grow up in Olive Branch and raise their families here as well. Anthony would work for the City, and Dee Dee would work at the flower shop. Ultimately Dee Dee would take over the daily operations of the business after Judy passed away.
In 1969 Judy graduated from DeGarmo Beauty School and began working as a beautician. She would continue her career as a beautician for fifteen years until she had the opportunity to purchase the Olive Branch Florist from Ms. Alma Young in February of 1985. This was a birthday gift to herself. She loved making flower arrangements and seeing the smiles it put on the faces of her customers. She was a “people person” and loved to talk with everyone who visited the flower shop.
Judy opened a second flower shop in Tunica in 2008. She loved the small-town feel and likened it to Olive Branch when she purchased Olive Branch Florist in 1985. She would sell the Tunica Florist in 2012 to take care of her mother, who was battling an illness at the time.
Judy loved to cook. This passion led her to purchase Wray’s Fins and Feathers in 2016. She found the same pleasure in cooking for others as she did in creating beautiful floral arrangements. After becoming ill with cancer in 2017, she decided to sell the restaurant. She would continue to work in the flower shop until her death in September of 2018.
Mrs. Berryhill was a friend to everyone in Olive Branch and served the needs of countless families during times of celebration and times of grief. You could always count on Judy to be there in time of need.
